Narrative Writing-Fractured fairy tale

My Reflection

I have been learning to write a fractured fairy tale using what I have learned about narrative structures  and features.  My fractured fairy tale was based on Red Riding Hood.  I am most proud of the pixel art because it was really fun and it looks so cool.  My next step is to make my beginning /end better by adding more detail. 

Understanding the purpose of characters in the text

My Reflection

I have been learning to relate to the characters in the text to understand their purpose.  I used a Venn diagram to compare Ivan and Stella in the story The One and only Ivan.  This made me realize the differences between the characters but also what made them simpler.  My next step is to be able to use their information to make inferences about me purpose of the characters.   

3D shapes

My Reflection

W.A.L.T identify and describe 3D shapes using mathematical language.  I found this easy because I knew all the shapes and I just  had to count all the stuff we had to do.  My next step is to learn more 3D shapes.   

Solving 6, 7, 8 times tables using 5 times tables

My Reflection

I have been learning to use 5 times tables to learn my 6,7 and 8 times table.  I found this tricky because I didn't know what to do first but then I knew what to do.  My next step is to learn my times tables off by heart.

Character Description

My Reflection

W.A.L.T  write a character description using adjectives.  I found this picture hard to describe because it looks really weird and funny and its just really hard to describe.  I used my 5 senses to write 5 different sentences about my character.  My next step is to use a simile or metaphors.  

Comparing Fairy Tales

My Reflection

I have been learning to identify common themes in fairy and fractured tales.  We read two narrative called Red Riding Hood and Into The Forest.  A common theme I made from these stories was they both had a grandma. I found this easy because when we read the book I got some great ideas from the book. My next step is to have even better ideas.

My Reflection

This is my Maori God Art.  We read a Maori myth called In The Beginning.  I drew Tu and used some adjectives to describe him.  We used cool text to publish the words.  I enjoyed this activity.

Decimals,Fractions and Percentages

My Reflection

 I was learning to compare decimals,fractions and percentages.  I had to match up the same decimal to a fraction.  I thought it was a little tricky because I didn't really know what to do but I kept on doing it and I found it a little bit easier.  My next step is to know more about decimals,fraction and percentages so I can grow my knowledge and get smarter. 

Making a Justified Prediction

I have been learning to make a justified prediction about a text.  I found it easy to make a prediction because When I read the blurb and looked at the cover it was easy to think. My next step is to read the story and see if i'm right.

I have been learning to subtract 3 digit numbers. I found this tricky because I didn't really know much about it. My next step is to try even more and know what it is.

The Zoo Debate

The Zoo Debate

I have been learning to identify and describe what the anther wanted me to feel,think or see.  The text was about people who didn't want zoo, do want zoos and also about animals you could never see. It made me think about if I like or don't like zoos. I learnt that some animals are really lonely and really sad as well. My next step is to illustrations help to get the author's  message across.

Persuasive Speech Research Popplet

My Reflection 

I have been learning to find information about my speech topic.  I used Instagrok and other websites to research my speech topic which is Why you DON'T want brothers.  I found this interesting because my brother is so annoying and when I searched things up it was very interesting when siblings get in fights.  My next step is to plan my speech. 

Features of Persuasive Writing

My Reflection

We have been learning to identify the features of persuasive writing.  I found this tricky because I didn't really know what all the things were that we had to do and a friend help me.  Something I learnt was a rhetorical question because I did not know what one was. My next step is to write a persuasive speech. 

Telling the time in 5 minute blocks

My Reflection

I have been learning to tell the time in 5 minute blocks.  I found this easy because I knew what the clock meant and what the time was.  My next step is to remember what is past and what is to.

Ordering an explanation

We have been learning about the structure and other of writing on explanation.  We had to put the piece of writing in the correct order.  I found this easy because I had a little help from Kaya.  My nest step is to write my own explanation. 

Solving Multiplications Problems With 2 Digit numbers

My Reflection

I have been learning to solve multiplication problems with 2 digit numbers.  I  used place valve to solve this problem. I found this tricky because I had to first work  out 6x57 and that was hard.  My next step is to solve division problems with remainders. 

Classifying Celebrations

Reflection

We have been learning about celebrations.  There are different types of celebrations.  We had to talk about these celebrations and decide what type of celebration they were. I found this easy because it only took 3 mins for me to do it and Mrs Melville said that there is no right or wrong answers.

Bike Skills

This term we have been doing bike skills and its been really FUN!!!

Comparing Celebrations

My Reflection

We have been learning to compare and contrast different celebrations.  My group researched information about Chinese New Year.  Something I found interesting was when we looked at some things about Chinese new year their were some very funny things about Chinese new year.  Next we worked with another group and used a Venn diagram to compare our celebrations. Things that were the same were decorations, special food and friends and family. My next step is to put more detail and information in the Venn diagram.   

Responding to a text

My Reflection

I have been learning to respond to a text using my prior knowledge and experience. We read a story called 'A Birthday Cake for Grandma.' I was able to make a connection in this text when they were talking about birthday cakes and that reminds me of my birthday cakes. I found this tricky because I couldn't really think of what some of the questions were. My next step is to try to think of even better answers.

I have been learning to add detail to my writing.  We had to imagine we were a soldier or a family member and write about this picture.  I used  detail in my to make my writing more interesting. My next step is to add more adjectives to make my writing more interesting. 

Prefix Suffix and Root Words

My Refection

I have been learning to use my knowledge of prefixes, and suffixes ton read and understand the meaning of words. A prefix is a group of letters that come at the beginning of the word that can change the meaning of the word. A suffix is a letter or group of letters at the end of the word to form another word or new meaning. I found this tricky because some times I forgot what a prefix and suffix was. My next learning step is to understand how the suffix or prefix changes to word and it's meaning.

I have been learning to use strategies to add detail to my writing. I wrote about a moment in time during my holiday. I used my 5 senses to add detail to my writing. I got a lot better at my 5 senses. My next step is to use wow words adjectives and verbs.

I have been learning to  find and summarise information in non-fiction text.  I found this hard because when I searched things up I couldn't find what I wanted.  My next step is to make sure I summarise the information using my own words.

My Pepeha Art

This is my Pepeha Art.  A Pepeha is a way of introducing yourself in Maori. I have included my maunga (mountain), awa (river, my culture and a place which is special to me.  My favourite part of this was colouring in my mountain and sea and drawing everything.  I enjoyed all the things I had to do like coloouring was the best bit.

My Antonym Diamante Poem

I have been learning to write an antonym diamante poem.  An antonym is a word that means the opposite.  A diamante poem is a poem shaped as a diamond.   I found this easy because we have written it down in our books and all we had to do was copy it then try and make it make sense. My next step is to try a little bit harder so when I do another Antonym Diamante poem I can do even better by using more nouns and adjectives and verbs.

Soft ball skills

Yesterday we had soft ball skills. I was first one to bat and I caught one of Ezras bats but if you dont know how far he bats  he does it pretty far.

I have been learning to collect data using a tally chart and show the results on a bar graph.  I found this fun because it is fun when you get to ask people what they love to do at school.  I was surprised with the results we had because this was the first time I ever did this.  My next step is to show the data on a different type of graph.

My Metaphor Poem

My Reflection

I have been learning to use metaphor to make it more interesting by making pictures in the readers head.
I know now that a metaphor is a thing comparing its self to anther  thing. My next step is to think more to think more about metaphors.

Sorting Numbers - Venn Diagram Activity

I have been learning to sort even numbers and multiples of 5. I found this easy because You need to drag the numbers in to the venn diagram  in each circle and decide witch one to put it in.  My next step is to try harder numbers.

We have been learning to write a bio poem.  A bio poem is a poem written about ourselves.  it has a special structure that we had to use to write our poems.  I found this tricky because it was my first time doing it.  My next step is to  make sure that each line starts with the right beginning.

Welcome to my year 4 learning blog. This year I am in room 12 and my teacher is Mrs Melville. L enjoy watching TV and learning maths. This year I am looking forward to maths. I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
